Romeo and Juliet was
written by William Shakespeare, though there is no record of him actually
writing the play.
-
Nobody knows how
Shakespeare began to write.
-
He became the lead
of the theatre troupe - 'The Lord Chamberlain's Men'. The company proved very
popular.
-
He was very
successful and wealthy in his time, and his work has remained very popular ever
since
-
Lived in
starford-upon-avon - He was born 1564
-
William was one of 8
children – his father was popular glove maker and studied at a local grammar
school
-
When Shakespeare was
18 he married his 26 year old wife Anne Hathaway.
-
He supposedly wrote
the play in 1594 or 1955
-
Romeo and Juliet is
possibly one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays and has been developed into
different formats of performance.

Explain plot – short
synopsis
-
The story has been
popular for hundreds of years
-
Might be that
Shakespeare based the play on a poem, No evidence that Romeo and Juliet
existed, so not known if it were based on real people
-
Shakespeare made
wanted the play to be performed on stage
-
Back then it would
have been performed with men playing both male and female parts
-
They would use
younger men to play the female parts
-
We watched four
different versions of the play
-
Shakespeare’s play
would have been performed on a stage with little or no scenery and with just a
-
few props such as a
bed or a table. There were very few stage directions and the actors would
-
have worn the most
up-to-date fashions of the day. The text of the play would not have been
-
published, therefore
each actor would probably only have had his own speaking part in front of him.
-
There would have
been corrections and versions changed as the play was in rehearsal. A
-
collected volume of
Shakespeare’s plays did not appear until after his death.
-
Everybody knows the story
-
There are many
references made to the story of Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ in our
everyday
-
lives, for example:
Elvis Presley sings about the lovers in the song ‘Fever’; Dire Straits recorded
a song called ‘Romeo and Juliet’; ‘West Side Story’ is a famous musical film
version of the play set in New York; Jane Austen refers to the lovers in ‘Sense
and Sensibility’.

Is based on the
popular script Romeo and Juliet a musical was created. In the 1950s racism was plentiful
and this particular of variation of the play we find that they portray this by
showing the mass immigration of Puerto Ricans to America the land of opportunity.
Because of the racism they portray the two gangs. White American and Puerto
Ricans and show their disagreements in stylized contempory dance *** Syn - Romeo
and Juliet is updated to New York City in this Oscar-winning musical landmark.
Adapted by Ernest Lehman from the Broadway production. We are introduced to two
rival street gangs: the Jets, second-generation American teens, and the Sharks,
Puerto Rican immigrants. When the war between the Jets and Sharks reaches a
fever pitch. But Tony has set his sights on vistas beyond the neighborhood and
has fallen in love with Bernardo's sister, Maria (Natalie Wood), a love that,
as in Romeo and Juliet, will eventually end in tragedy.

all the songs
written by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim for the original Broadway
production of West Side Story were retained for the film version and the
original order of two songs was reversed for stronger dramatic impact. The
movie more than retains the original choreography of Jerome Robbins,

The story line is very much the same
as the original and uses the original scripting, it revolves around two families in a feud,
and starts off with a
brawl between a few members of each family. The main difference is that
it has the setting of 20th century.
-
The story revolves
around three families from
Verona.

*** Gnomeo and Juliet
-
The animated tale
Gnomeo & Juliet knowingly follows the quintessential star-crossed lovers
tragedy Romeo and Juliet, with the unexpected twist of making the characters
garden gnomes that can move when human beings aren't watching. Though Gnomeo
and Juliet belong to feuding garden-gnome families, they meet and fall in love.
After getting some sage advice from a statue of William Shakespeare.
